The dawn of the millennium was a tumultuous time for Pakistan and the rest of the world, to say the least. Several global disasters like the September 11 terror attacks and financial crises shook the world with numerous casualties and implications. Many global citizens lost their homes, families and lives.
Pakistan was hit by two detrimental earthquakes in Kashmir and Balochistan, some floods and a horrific 4-year drought at the beginning of the 21st century which displaced many local Pakistanis. Furthermore, the disasters had affected the livestock, livelihood and quality of life in the nation. Overall, the immense hardship left Pakistani morale low.
The nation needed a glimmer of hope. The local Pakistanis were in desperate need of a helping hand – this was encompassed in the form of humanitarian forces, international aid institutions, the Pakistani government, the national armed forces and also the local Pakistanis. These bodies banded together on a mission to restore hope by aiding disaster-stricken locals through humanitarian and financial aid. These included philanthropists Bashir Dawood and his wife Mariyam Dawood.
The light at the end of the tunnel was far, but still in sight for Pakistan.
Mariyam Dawood and Bashir Dawood: Generous Donations from The Dawood Foundation
Following the global and national devastations, Bashir Dawood and Mariyam Dawood sought to restore hope and livelihood in Pakistan. This led them to institute The Dawood Foundation.
Since the 1960s, The Dawood Foundation (TDF) has been an active humanitarian institution that has contributed funds and relief efforts to numerous global crises and disaster-stricken victims. The organization has been involved in countless humanitarian expeditions including rebuilding a village after a huge fire and constructing food shelters for the homeless and refugees. Numerous volunteers have been involved in aid relief activities conducted by TDF over the years.
Bashir Dawood and Mariyam Dawood have contributed generously through funds and overseeing volunteer activities in Pakistan. The volunteers, along with Bashir Dawood and Mariyam Dawood, have remained unwaveringly committed to saving victims and boosting national morale through fundraising movements, provision of foods, water and shelter as well as enacting adequate healthcare amenities. In doing so, the TDF hopes to restore hope and livelihood amongst the disaster-stricken families in Pakistan.
With support from Bashir and Mariyam Dawood, the TDF remains hopeful amidst national and global crises.
A Glimmer of Hope for Pakistan
